The Hanen Program
The Hanen More than Words program is designed specifically for parents with young children on the autism spectrum or with social-communication difficulties. Addressing the unique needs of these children, the program provides parents with the tools, strategies and support they need to help their children reach their full communication potential.
In this program you will:
- Learn what motivates your child to communicate
- Gain information about how your child learns and communicates so you can set goals to develop these skills
- Learn how to turn everyday activities into opportunities for learning to communicate
- Meet and connect with other parents of young children with ASD and social-communication difficulties
- Learn how to develop your child’s play skills and help them make friends
- Learn how to help your child’s understanding of language (verbal comprehension)
The More Than Words program consists of 12 sessions.
These include:
- 8 x 2 ½ hour group sessions for parents/carers conducted via Zoom which may be offered during the day or in the evenings depending on parent preference.
- 4 individual appointments where you get the opportunity to practice the skills you’ve learnt during the course with support from the Hanen Certified Speech Pathologist.

Families who register their interest will be invited to attend a free More Than Words Information Session via Zoom where you can learn more about the program, find out the dates and times of the sessions and ask any questions you may have.
